Plan to boost oil output 5 percent annually
China plans to produce about 110 million tons of crude oil this year and increase the output by more than 5 percent a year through 1990, said Tang Ke, ministry of petroleum industry at a meeting in Beijing.
As a prerequisite, enough new oil must be found in the coming years to double the proven deposits on land, Tang said.
Exploration will surely uncover more deposits on land in the next 17 years, he added.
Shanghai shipyards expand production
Since the founding of the Shanghai Shipbuilding Industry Corporation in August 1981, its productivity has increased dramatically.
Last year, its production rose by almost 50 percent over that of 1982, and the quality of construction has greatly improved.
Recently, the corporation has signed contracts with enterprises in foreign countries involving a total tonnage of 610,000.
World Food shipment for six Chinese cities
The first shipment of dairy products supplied by the World Food Program (WFP) arrived at Shanghai harbor on Tuesday, according to the Ministry of Agriculture, Animal Husbandry and Fisheries.
Under a dairy development project ratified at the 15th session of the WFP Committee on food aid policies and program in Rome in 1983, the WFP will supply China with 40,000 metric tons of skimmed milk powder and 13,330 metric tons of butter oil between 1984 and 1988.
