Obama at Notre Dame

US President Barack Obama was in for a political thicket yesterday when he was scheduled to speak at a prestigious Catholic university, where right-to-life protesters had gathered to oppose his support of abortion rights.

Obama was to deliver the commencement speech at the University of Notre Dame in South Bend, Indiana, founded in 1842. More than 360,000 people had signed a petition asking Notre Dame's president to withdraw the invitation.
