Europa League start the prize for Lazio, Sampdoria

ROME: Lazio and Sampdoria will go head to head in the Italian Cup final at Rome's Stadio Olimpico on Wednesday knowing that the winners will secure a place in Europe next season.

In what has been a largely disappointing campaign for both teams, leaving them out of Europa League qualifying contention, this final represents to the winner not only a chance of silverware but also seasonal salvation.

At the very least the final offers a breath of fresh air following four consecutive finals between Inter Milan and AS Roma.
