Exciting events in store at film fest

The 12th Shanghai International Film Festival begins on June 13 and will see a record 1,925 films, including 1,270 full-length features. Sixteen films, including Empire of Silver (Baiyin Diguo) starring Hong Kong star Aaron Kwok, will compete for the Jin Jue Award.

Besides the regular Film Market and Film Seminar, this year's nine-day festival will have a theme screening. Ten movies by master director Alfred Hitchcock will be shown for the first time, as well as six films of French actress Isabelle Huppert and some of Korean director Lm Kwon-taek. A theme screening of the 50-year anniversary of the New Wave Movement will also open during the festival and present signature works of Francois Truffaut and Jean-Luc Godard.
