Takins may be not guilty as charged

As publicity goes, takins get a bad rap - especially in China.

The little people know often revolves around the threat they pose to the country's national animal, the giant panda. Takins, it is said, compete in the same habitat, deprive the pandas of bamboo and contribute to their plight.

Now the rumor may be revealed as a myth - in at least one area. Early results from the first three years of "takin tracking" in Tangjiahe National Nature Reserve suggest the verdict is not guilty.
