SHANGHAI: A KTV owner and a former village head in Lishui, Zhejiang province, have been detained and are expected to face charges for the alleged rapes of several local children, Shanghai-based Oriental Morning Post reported yesterday. A 15-year-old female high school student may also face charges and has been detained in connection with the alleged rapes. Investigators believe at least 10 girls were victimized in the alleged assaults, the report said. The 15-year-old girl known as Xiaoli (not real name) was reportedly a victim herself initially but investigators believe she may have gone on to help 40-year-old KTV owner Chen Weijun and former village head He Guobing in the rape of several of her female school mates aged between 13 and 16, for which she allegedly received about 5,000 yuan ($730). Chen and Xiaoli were arrested on March 23, the newspaper reported. He has been in detention since April 4. More arrests are anticipated. Villagers told the paper there were dozens of victims, and more alleged attackers, including businessmen, village officials and civil servants. Some of the victims have reportedly had abortions, been infected with venereal diseases and been made infertile, the newspaper said. The case against the men began to form after a 13-year-old student at Bihu High School called her teacher to say she had been raped. The teacher reported the call to police.
