Reaching the remote tribe

China Daily | Updated: 2009-04-28 08:20

It takes 2 hours by train from Taipei to Hualien. There are several trains running between the two cities every day.

It's about a 40-minute drive from Hualien city to the Sakizaya village. The Ba Chi on the way is a must-see, for its bird's-eye view of the village. There are plenty of overnight stay options along the beach, with a price tag of anywhere between 600 and 800 yuan ($88-118) per night. Some places are run by artists or indigenous people.

Besides Feng Nian Ji, you can visit the tribe between March and June, a season for flying fishes. Dried flying fishes will be the best souvenir to bring home.
