A lonely journey

By Gan Tian | China Daily | Updated: 2009-04-25 08:07

Young artist Jia Aili's one-painting exhibition fills the hall of Doart Gallery, located in Caochangdi, Chaoyang district. The artist, who worked on the giant canvas, 6m tall and 12m wide, for six months starting last November, calls his work a "creative journey".

A lonely journey

Done in tones of gray, the painting shows a high-tech city of white towers, majestic architecture and impressive highways, which is nonetheless a polluted place of smog, smoke and a plane's wreckage. It is filled with people in old-fashioned cloaks who cut lonely figures. The 30-year-old artist's early drafts are also on display and show visitors how the work progressed from a giant white canvas to a seemingly empty city.
