Have fun faking it

China Daily | Updated: 2009-04-25 08:07

The fake Olympic award presentation ceremony at the Bird's Nest could rake in profits for the stadium and psychological comfort of being a champion for visitors, says an article in the Beijing News. Following is an excerpt:

The Bird's Nest recently started a model version of the Olympic award presentation ceremony to attract more visitors and gain more profits. Visitors can change into Chinese Olympic kits, stand on the victory rostrum, hold a miniature Olympic torch and flowers, and get snapped. Each day, no more than 2008 visitors can have the joy of feeling like an Olympic gold medalist.

A survey showed that more than 70 percent of the respondents thought this gimmick disrespected the sportspersons who have strived day in and day out to be contenders for an Olympic garland.
