Nuke-driven submarines to make their debut

By Peng Kuang | China Daily | Updated: 2009-04-23 07:45

For the first time, two of China's nuclear-powered submarines, Long March 6 and Long March 3, will be displayed today as part of the historic fleet review to mark the 60th anniversary of the People's Liberation Army (PLA) Navy.

Usually kept top secret for security reasons, the debut of these ballistic missile-loaded vessels offers a rare glimpse into the Chinese Navy, said Beijing-based analyst Li Daguang yesterday.

China's nuclear submarines have been kept so secret, in fact, some Chinese military enthusiasts believe there are four subs with the same name Long March 6, with only navy officials able to tell the "real thing".
