Israel recalls Swiss envoy

China Daily | Updated: 2009-04-21 07:45

JERUSALEM: Israel said it was recalling its ambassador to Switzerland yesterday in protest at the UN conference on racism in Geneva.

Israeli officials also voiced anger at a meeting that Swiss President Hans-Rudolf Merz held on Sunday with Ahmadinejad, who has questioned whether the Nazi Holocaust happened and called for Israel to be "wiped off the map".

Yesterday's racism conference coincides with Holocaust Remembrance Day in the Jewish state.
