Big fat sound
A mix of music and art have informed many creative endeavors, notably opera. The ongoing music festival, Fat Sounds, at the Today Art Museum is the concert part of Music to My Eyes - the first exhibition of the FAT ART series, and is on till tomorrow evening.
Explaining the unusual title of the exhibition, the organizers say the idea is to showcase visual art distinguished by its relationship to sound and music.
A series of activities have been planned in conjunction with the exhibition and the use of the word "fat" is an allusion to all the extras. It also refers to the uncommon nature of the exhibits in much the same way as beauty is not commonly associated with the notion of "fat".
Fat Sounds features three locally famous bands or performers. Dead J, an electronic music producer, will present his music from 4 pm this afternoon, and will be followed by Gamblers and Traveling Group. Tomorrow, the Zig Zag, Girl Kill Girl, and Brain Failure will take the stage.
Though Brain Failure has only just released their second album Down Town Production in China, they have build themselves quite a reputation at home and abroad. They will present their punk music tomorrow evening. The four-person band have been picked by Levi's in Europe for an advertisement campaign and have also been touring the US and Japan since 2003.
Yesterday, the band New Pants were on stage, their only show in Beijing in recent times.
