'Golden era' returns in Sino-Mongolian relations
Mongolian-Sino relations have witnessed ups and downs over the course of the past 60 years. The first 15 years following the establishment of diplomatic relations are often referred to by historians as the "golden era of bilateral relations" due to the scope and depth of interaction between the two countries.
Unfortunately, these bilateral ties went through some difficulties during the two decades following the early 1960s, due to a number of historical issues. Thanks to the consistent efforts made by both sides and owing to positive developments in international relations in the early 1980s, the two countries gradually restored their good relationship.
It is worth mentioning that the restoration started with people-to-people exchanges, namely through "wrestling" diplomacy, and continued through "track two" channels, specifically the mutual visits by the heads of friendship associations, consolidated through official contacts between political parties, and fully affirmed via high level exchanges at the level of heads of state, parliaments and governments.
