King's silence on solid ground

China Daily | Updated: 2009-04-15 07:50

The silence of Thailand's king toward the political crisis has its reasons, says an article in Ta Kung Pao. Following is an excerpt:

Since former prime minister Thaksin Shinawatra was ousted by a military coup in September 2006, Thailand has been stranded in a political crisis. Governing powers have been changed several times with three prime ministers having resigned.

In the past year, anti-government protesters have taken lunatic action several times, leaving the government in a chaotic situation. Although politicians have called the King of Thailand to intervene in the crisis, he has kept his mouth tight.
