胡子工程 (huzi gongcheng)

Whiskers Engineering

A term for a drawn-out project that takes so long to complete, young workers grow beards. It is usually a sarcastic description of a never-ending construction by local government because of insufficient funding. Most master's and PhD candidates usually spend a year or much longer finishing their graduation theses. Their work is also referred to as whiskers engineering.
