New Cabinet unveiled

Malaysian Prime Minister Najib Razak has unveiled a new 28-member Cabinet.

Najib says the 28 ministers will be assisted by 40 deputy ministers. He says he is creating a new ministry of national unity.

The prime minister told reporters yesterday the team reflects the diversity of the National Front coalition, which is made up of parties representing the various races of Malaysia. The names of the ministers will be revealed later.

He says "the clear message is that everyone wants a government that is responsive to the needs of the people today.

Najib took office last Friday and pledged to carry out wide-ranging administrative and social reforms. His predecessor, Abdullah Ahmad Badawi, also had made similar promises but largely failed.
