Notes from the past

Among the items on display at the museum is an exam sheet penned by Sun while studying at the College of Medicine for Chinese in Hong Kong. When Dr Joseph Ting Sun-pao and his search team came across it, the sheet was lying quietly at the Wellcome Library in London, having been donated by the family of Dr James Cantlie, Sun's teacher at the medical college.

The museum staff were able to lay their hands on a motley assortment of things associated with Sun, some very personal. Among them are Sun's application for entry into Hong Kong which was kept at the National Archives in UK, as well as a written declaration of Hawaiian birth signed by Sun and kept at the National Archives and Records Administration in the United States. The latter was used by Sun, a Guangdong native, to gain access to the States after the US Congress sanctioned the Chinese Exclusion Act.
