Agro-tech contract system to expand

The agro-tech contract responsibility system, introduced experimentally in Sichuan province, has been hailed a success and is now to be introduced nationwide.

Under system, farmers can get technological aid from agro-technicians on a contract basis.

The new system is an extension of the existing contract responsibility system under which individual households can contract land from the communities.

Exhibition turns spotlight on electronic technology

An eight-day exhibition of electronic and semi-conductor technology opened yesterday at the Beijing exhibition center.

Taking part are 250 companies from 14 countries, including France, Federal Germany, Japan, Britain, and the US.

More than 50,000 visitors are expected to see the exhibition, which has been organized concurrently with a conference on semiconductors and printed circuits.

Ancient city walls repaired in Pingyao

The 670-year-old city walls of Pingyao county in Shanxi province are being repaired. Pingyao is one of China's four well-preserved ancient cities.

The city walls were built in the third year of the Hongwu Reign (1370) during the Ming Dynasty (1368-1644).

The streets, government offices, houses and stores in Pingyao still retain to a great extent the original architectural form of the Ming Dynasty.
