Message from Rudy
Last month London, tonight Beijing. The acclaimed Russian pianist Mikhail Rudy, who was chosen to perform at the opening of the English capital's new cultural center King's Place, is now in the Chinese capital and a treat is in store for fans of classical music here.
In London, Rudy played recitals and improvised classical-jazz fusions with the Norwegian pianist Misha Alperin. On the final night he and actor Peter Guinness staged a theatrical show of Letters to Milena, a dramatic adaptation of Kafka's love letters to the younger, married writer, Milena Jesenska.
The pianist's Beijing debut tonight will be at the Poly Theater with the China Philharmonic Orchestra under the baton of Chinese conductor Wang Jin. Rudy will play Bartok's Piano Concerto No 3 and the orchestra will also perform George Enescu's Rome Fantasy No 1 and works by Leos Janacek and Dvorak.
