Biggest flood in century
Residents scrambled to pile sandbags and build dikes as North Dakota braced yesterday for the arrival this weekend of what forecasts say could be the biggest flood in 100 years.
Thousands of volunteers worked around the clock to fend off the surging waters, as work crews aimed to raise the dikes to 13 m before tomorrow, when the Red River is expected to crest at 12.5 meters.
