Obama urges support for growth plan

After urging the American public to support his economic policies, President Barack Obama now has to win support for his ambitious budget proposals among his former Senate Democratic colleagues.

Obama told a nationally televised news conference yesterday (Beijing time) that the main thrust, if not all the details, of his massive budget proposal is moving the nation in the right direction to turn around the ailing economy.

"This budget is inseparable from this recovery," he said, "because it is what lays the foundation for a secure and lasting prosperity."
