The new EPZs: competitive and cost-effective
Since gaining its independence, Bangladesh has made huge strides in a number of areas - socially, politically, culturally and economically. As part of its continuing development, the country is now looking to boost its levels of foreign direct investment (FDI) as part of its drive to accelerate the pace of industrialization.
A key part of this process has been the establishment of the Bangladesh Export Processing Zones Authority (BEPZA), the government body responsible for the creation, operation and development of the country's export processing zones (EPZ).
Through a series of attractive and competitive incentive packages, developments to the infrastructure facilities of zones and the provision of skilled, low-cost labor, Bangladesh's government has sought to establish a competitive advantage for the EPZs compared to similar initiatives in neighboring countries.
EPZs are now channeling investment into infrastructure, power and a number of environmental management projects. These have been designed to make the zones a truly attractive investment prospect for prudent investors.
BEPZA now believes that international investors will find that the EPZs of Bangladesh offer a truly attractive investment destination.
