Court admits case filed by victim's family

By Cui Xiaohuo | China Daily | Updated: 2009-03-26 07:45

For the first time since the tainted milk powder scandal broke last September, a district court in Hebei province yesterday admitted a lawsuit filed by a family seeking compensation for their ailing child.

Courts across China have so far been reluctant to accept individual compensation pleas, including those from families of children who died after developing severe kidney stones.

Yesterday, the People's Court in Xinhua district in Shijiazhuang, the city at the center of the milk scandal, accepted the file from the lawyer representing the victim and should open a trial within 30 days.
