Unspoilt Bouyei village proves tourist magnet for Guizhou

By Zhao Xie | China Daily | Updated: 2009-03-20 07:40

Guiding county is relying on the allure of its indigenous Bouyei community to put it squarely on the tourist map this year. The county, set in southwest China's Guizhou province, is pinning its hopes on the picturesque village of Yinzhai to attract sightseers both from China and from across the world.

Billed as the "most typical Bouyei village in China," Yinzhai showcases the culture and tradition of one of China's most colorful and distinct ethnic communities. With a history stretching back over a thousand years, tourist chiefs in the region believe the Bouyei's unique lifestyle will pique the curiosities of families, backpackers and the culturally curious and see them teeming into the province this year.

Life in the tiny village has continued at the same space for hundreds of years. The locals live today mainly as their forefathers did before them, with a lifestyle very much in tune with the changing of the seasons and the needs of the land.
