Spare kids from advertising

China Daily | Updated: 2009-03-19 07:22

TV commercials that harm the health of children should result in the punishment of those who air them, says an article in Qilu Evening Post. Following is an excerpt:

Children shouldn't appear in TV commercials advertising medicine, medical treatment and wines. And TV commercials on food shouldn't encourage children to overeat. On March 14, the China Advertisement Association called for the clean-up of ads affecting the health of children and said a self-discipline regulation on ads targeting them would be released this year.

Television is considered a window for children in their early age. This makes them vulnerable to commercials driven by commercial interests and widespread ignorance on children's health.
