Niedermayer's OT winner keeps Ducks firmly in hunt

China Daily | Updated: 2009-03-13 08:07

LOS ANGELES: Scott Niedermayer scored a breakaway goal in overtime to keep the Anaheim Ducks firmly in the Western Conference playoff picture with a 4-3 victory over the Vancouver Canucks on Wednesday.

Playing in a 3-on-3 situation, the Ducks captain slipped past the defense and received a pass before beating goaltender Roberto Luongo for the winning score 3:37 into the extra session.

"I almost lost the puck and just wanted to get it back; I just went down and tried to get it up," veteran defenseman Niedermayer told reporters.
