Market information network needed

China must develop immediately an efficient and accurate market information network, directors from industrial and commercial administrations agreed at a national conference in Beijing.

A marketing research institute was set up last month by the Beijing Society of Commercial Economy.

Initially, it intends to popularize marketing studies, train personnel, introduce up-to-date methods, and publish experiences.

Imported rolling mill achieves good result

With its 1.7-meter rolling mill operating since late 1981, the Wuhan Iron and Steel Works has become China's largest sheet steel supplier.

It has produced more than 5.7 million tons of hot rolled steel, more than 1.97 million tons of cold rolled steel and more than 110,000 tons of silicon plates in the past years, saving the country more than $1 billion of foreign exchange on imports.

For years, China's rolling mill technology had been a weak link in the iron and steel industry. Output was inadequate and quality low. The 1.7-meter rolling mill has changed the situation.

Anti-pollution projects show profit

A total of 460 million Yuan (about $230 million) has been invested in more than 5,600 environmental protection projects over the past eight years in Sichuan.

The installation of industrial waste treatment projects had gone hand in hand with the construction and operation of more than 80 percent of the new enterprises in the province.

Projects to utilize industrial waste built during the past two years alone have yielded a total output value of 170 million Yuan, and made profits of over 41million Yuan.
