'Courts should own up to errors'

Wiping out corruption and correcting mistakes made by the justice system should be the top priority of legal professionals, a top official said yesterday.

Deputy director of the Yunnan Provincial Procuratorate Ni Huifang said the "worst crime" would be to ignore obvious injustices and urged her colleagues to challenge questionable court verdicts to ensure public trust.

"There's a long-standing belief that exposing a legal mistake made by our court harms its authority. That's totally wrong," she said during a discussion of the CPPCC.
