Sept 2008: Huang Zhengyu takes Chinese actresses Deng Jie and Ni Ping to court in Chongqing over their appearace in ads for Sanlu, claiming both were irresponsible for saying good words about a product that killed six children and poisoned 300,000 more.
Actresses Xue Jianing, Jiang Qinqin and Jiang Wenli, and pop group The Flowers, are also vilified for TV endorsements before the melamine scandal.
Sept 2008: Superstar Zhao Wei comes under fire when China's famous White Rabbit Creamy Candy, which she endorsed, is found to contain more than 50 times the permitted level of melamine.
