Ready for the plunge
China is working on an ocean exploration program that may send men 7,000 m deep into the ocean. So far manned submersibles have scaled only 6,500 m below the sea level. Sun Zhihui, director of the State Oceanic Administration, said yesterday that a deep-sea manned submersible for the mission was assembled last year and would begin testing this year.
