Green fuel policy

China should chalk out national standards for methanol-powered vehicles, said Li Shufu, chairman of Zhejiang-based Geely Auto, a major domestic carmaker. Li, a CPPCC member, proposed that the National Development and Reform Commission, the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology and Standardization Administration work out related policy and specifications to promote the use of methanol-powered vehicles. "It will be an ideal way for a green future in the auto industry because methanol engine-equipped cars are much cleaner, and with lower R&D and production costs, compared with other types of new energy solutions," said Li.
