Migrant rights 'not adequately protected'

By Qian Yanfeng | China Daily | Updated: 2009-03-05 07:47

For Henan's provincial Party secretary Xu Guangchun, the national legislature's annual session is more than reviewing government reports and discussing proposals; it is also an appointment with the province's migrant workers.

For the past five years, the Party chief has promised to visit migrant workers from Henan working in Beijing while participating in the annual legislative session.

"Migrant workers have made great contributions to our country, but they are still working under unfavorable conditions for low pay," Xu said on the news portal bbs.people.com.cn yesterday, one day before the top legislature begins its annual session today.
