A-Rod homers to cheers and jeers

MIAMI: Ignoring the steroid controversy swirling around him, Alex Rodriguez homered in his first official at bat as the New York Yankees opened their Grapefruit League schedule with a 6-1 win over the Toronto Blue Jays on Wednesday.

Playing in his first game since admitting he had used performance-enhancing drugs, Rodriguez stepped to the plate in the fourth inning and immediately slammed a two-run homer to left-center field off left-hander Ricky Romero in Dunedin.
