Depressed soldier kills 3

A sergeant described as depressed opened fire inside army headquarters in Manila yesterday, killing three of his superiors before escaping, a military spokesman said.

The suspect, Sergeant Elias Tial, was on guard duty late on Wednesday when he went to a common area at a barracks and allegedly shot his commanding officer and three others with an M-16 rifle, said army spokesman Lieutenant Colonel Romeo Brawner.
