Inheritance from ROK father

Four Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK) nationals filed a legal claim in the Republic of Korea (ROK) for a portion of their deceased father's estate, court officials said yesterday.

The father, Yoon, defected to the ROK during the 1950-53 Korean War, leaving his wife and four children behind. He married a woman identified only as Kwon, and died in 1987. A court in Seoul said Yoon's four children in the DPRK had filed a lawsuit demanding a part of the 10 billion won ($6.6 million) Kwon inherited from her husband. The court promised to look into whether DPRK nationals could take legal action in the ROK.
