A $22 million action movie about kungfu heroes who protected Dr Sun Yat-sen, will spearhead a new Chinese film production company.
Hong Kong director Peter Chan and mainland producer Huang Jianxin have joined hands with Polybona International to set up the production company based in Beijing.
Tong Gang, president of the State Administration of Radio, Film and Television - the industry's top regulator - and movie mogul Han Sanping, chairman of the China Film Group Corporation, attended a press conference on Sunday. Chan explained why the company is called Cinema Popular. "The word popular implies a wide audience," Chan says. "We will make films that most people would love to see."
