Behind the statues

Cheng Yuyang's solo photo exhibition focuses on statues of Buddha and other immortal figures that were destroyed in last year's earthquake in his hometown in Sichuan province. The figures, exquisitely carved, carefully protected and faithfully worshiped were too fragile to survive the disaster. Cheng's message is that the over-development of our world has destroyed the balance between people and nature. Cheng, the director of the photographic department at the Beijing Morning Post, is displaying 10 black-and-white photos.
