'Bin Laden envoy' paid

Europe's highest human rights court has awarded an extremist Muslim preacher 2,800 euros ($3,550) for being held unlawfully by British authorities during an anti-terrorist probe.

The ruling comes a day after Britain's highest court ruled that Abu Qatada could be deported to Jordan despite fears he could face torture there. A Spanish judge once named Qatada as a spiritual ambassador for Osama bin Laden in Europe.
