Green fund launched
With national tree-planting day, March 12 approaching, the Central Greening Committee decided to establish a "Green China Fund" and adopted an official emblem. The fund will be open to donations by people at home and abroad for planting trees.
To speed up tree planting, the State Council has taken new policies, under which 16.67 million hectares of hilly lands have been allocated to 50 million rural households in recent years as their private plots.
The responsibility system has been extended to tree planting in 80 percent of the brigades and production teams, and specialized tree planting households and joint economic entities specializing in forestation have appeared.
