Waiting game almost over for Liu

Liu Xiang is a week away from being able to train unaided and can safely return to China to complete his rehabilitation, local media reported yesterday.

Tom Clanton, the American doctor who performed surgery on the star hurdler's right Achilles' tendon in Houston in December, told Shanghai-based Xinmin Evening Post that Liu has made a remarkable recovery following a final consultation on Sunday.

Liu's father confirmed the good news.
