Bus, truck collide, 16 dead

An Egyptian police official says 16 people have been killed and three seriously wounded when their minibus collided with a truck in northeastern Egypt.

The official says Saturday's accident took place when a speeding truck heading to Ismailia located 120 km east of Cairo crashed against the minibus.

A new tougher traffic law in Egypt went into effect in August in a bid to bring order to the country's dangerous roads, where at least 8,000 people were killed in accidents in 2006.
