Oh, 12, sets Women's Australian Open record

China Daily | Updated: 2009-02-13 07:54

MELBOURNE, Australia: While her classmates were coming to grips with their first week at high school, 12-year-old Oh Su-hyun was making history as the youngest ever player to tee off at the Women's Australian Open.

Oh earned the right to take on the likes of Karrie Webb at the Metropolitan Golf Club after topping the official open qualifying tournament at nearby Kingswood Golf Club on Monday.

She started her Open campaign with a first-round 6-over-par 79 on Thursday. She was 13 shots behind former No 1-ranked Webb's leading 66, but still harbored hopes of making the cut.
