Frozen soil vanishing

Frozen soil with thickness less than 10 m in the Qinghai-Tibet plateau may disappear in seven years, a joint study by Qinghai geological survey institute and China University of Geosciences said, according to a Xinhua report yesterday.

Researchers said global warming and human activities are two main reasons. The disappearance of frozen soil also increases the likelihood of degradation of biodiversity, desertification, or landslides, they said.
