China Daily | Updated: 2009-02-06 07:46

Police said yesterday they had detained more than 6,600 train ticket scalpers over the Lunar New Year holiday season.

Police seized more than 40,000 scalped tickets with a face value of about 5 million yuan ($730,000) since Jan 14 when the Ministry of Public Security launched a nationwide campaign to curb illegal ticket sales.

They also broke up more than 700 gangs involved in producing or selling fake train tickets, the ministry said.
