PHILADELPHIA: The Philadelphia Phillies continued preparations for their World Series title defence by securing outfielder Shane Victorino and reliever Ryan Madson to new deals, while slugger Ryan Howard headed to arbitration.
Victorino, who hit a grand slam home run in the National League Division Series against Milwaukee, earned a big raise for his playoff contributions, signing a one-year deal worth $3.15 million according to a report on MLB.com on Tuesday.
The 28-year-old switch-hitter batted .293 with 14 home runs, 58 RBI and 36 stolen bases in 146 games last season.
