New government warms up to Beijing

By Li Xiaokun | China Daily | Updated: 2009-01-21 07:48

Foreign policy experts in China are optimistic about the US' Beijing policy under Hillary Clinton as the new US Secretary of State.

"Analysts have talked about Hilary's China policy for a long time. Some said she would stick to her husband Bill Clinton's friendly style toward China, while others said she would be tough with Beijing, citing her attacks on China during the general election on issues such as the exchange rate of renminbi," Tao Wenzhao, an expert on US studies at the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, told China Daily yesterday.

"In my opinion, Hillary has sent a very positive and continuous signal to Beijing in her recent remarks."
