Save our memory, our history, researcher appeals

Song Dachuan, a member of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC) Beijing Committee, yesterday handed a proposal to the committee for protecting the capital's underground relics, yet again.

It was for the sixth year in a row that Song had proposed for the authorities to save historical monuments and ancient relics buried under the ground. For the past five years, his plea has fallen on deaf ears. And this year was no different.

"I feel powerless and sad," said the city's top archeologist, soon after the plenary meeting of the 2nd session of the 11th CPPCC Beijing Committee ended yesterday.
