Major cases uncovered by the Communist Party of China (CPC) since October 2007:
Liu Zhijun, former vice-mayor of Beijing in charge of urban construction, was given the death penalty with a two-year reprieve in a first-instance trial in October last year for taking bribes amounting to 6.9 million yuan ($1 million).
Chen Tonghai, former general manager of the China Petrochemical Corporation and board chairman of the China Petroleum & Chemical Corporation, was sacked from his administrative post and expelled from the CPC in January last year for corruption, making unlawful profits and leading a "corrupt life".
