Chinese characteristics
A term used to describe China's different development model from that of the rest of the world.
In the initial period after the country's reform and opening-up, misgivings occasionally arose at home and abroad as to whether the socialist nation is still on the track of socialism or will develop into a capitalist one. To silence ideological debates over the country's reform and opening- up initiative, late leader Deng Xiaoping reaffirmed its adherence to the banner of socialism and proclaimed the nation was committed to building "socialism with Chinese characteristics".
