By Xie Chuanjiao | China Daily | Updated: 2009-01-13 07:34

With the 60th anniversary of the People's Republic of China (PRC) months away, the security in the capital will continue to remain as tight as it was during the Beijing Olympic Games, top officials said yesterday.

Mayor Guo Jinlong, speaking at the 2nd session of the 13th Beijing municipal people's congress, said 2008 recorded the lowest number ever of accidents and deaths in the city.

"We have to continue to prevent major accidents, decrease the number of minor ones and maintain strict management control to ensure public order in the capital," he told the meeting.
